Postgraduate students have been honoured with prestigious scholarships from the City Law School of City University London. The award is given to graduates and professionals and graduates committed to careers related to International Commercial Law. The £12,500 scholarship is awarded to a student of a high-standard profile with an outstanding record in law. Amongst this year’s award-winners, a Greek and very promising young lawyer, Aglaia Politou who has been selected to pursue an LLM in Maritime Law.
Miss Politou has worked at NATO HQ in Brussels, at the Legal Department of the United Nations as well as at the European Parliament of Strasbourg and at the Council of Europe. She read law in London and France and she specialised in Private International Law at The Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands. She speaks fluent English, French, Russian and Greek. Miss Politou is a member of the London Shipping Law Centre – Maritime Business Forum whilst her involvement in the Founding Committee of the Young London Shipping Law Centre Group is notable.
After receiving the award, Miss Politou stated: ‘With the occasion of the scholarship, I am looking forward particularly to developing my knowledge in shipping litigation and deepen my understanding on marine insurance disputes and arbitration. As Fitzhugh Dodson quoted, “without goals and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.”
The Greek Shipping Community would like to congratulate each scholarship recipient and encourage young professionals for the contribution they have made, and will make, to improve the maritime business as a whole. May your steps are followed by the bright Greek colours!
