DATE: July 13, 2012 COUNTRY: Angola PORT: Luanda Planned march

The French Embassy in Luanda is urging people to avoid the route of a march planned for 0900 hours tomorrow (Saturday 14 July).

The march will take place on the axis Largo Sao Paulo/Largo Maianga along the following route: streets leading to the school Anagola, Hotel Tropico, Largo da Mutamba, and Largo da Maianga.

The advice from the French Embassy states: “It is recommended to avoid this route and stay away from any gatherings or stampede.”

DATE: July 13, 2012 – COUNTRY: Hong Kong – PORT: Hong Kong  – Dredging in Kwai Tsing Container Terminals Basin

From 20 July 2012 and for approximately six months, dredging operations will be carried out [in Kwai Tsing Container Terminals Basin] in the following areas:-

Area 1: This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (F):

  • (A) 22 deg. 20.884’N / 114 deg. 07.171’E
  • (B) 22 deg. 19.669’N / 114 deg. 07.583’E
  • (C) 22 deg. 19.653’N / 114 deg. 07.528’E
  • (D) 22 deg. 20.764’N / 114 deg. 07.151’E
  • (E) 22 deg. 20.731’N / 114 deg. 07.040’E
  • (F) 22 deg. 20.835’N / 114 deg. 07.004’E

Area 2: This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (G) to (L):

  • (G) 22 deg. 19.509’N / 114 deg. 07.333’E
  • (H) 22 deg. 19.432’N / 114 deg. 07.360’E
  • (I) 22 deg. 19.344’N / 114 deg. 07.283’E
  • (J) 22 deg. 19.291’N / 114 deg. 07.298’E
  • (K) 22 deg. 19.272’N / 114 deg. 07.232’E
  • (L) 22 deg. 19.460’N / 114 deg. 07.168’E

Area 3: This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (M) to (P):

  • (M) 22 deg. 20.349’N / 114 deg. 06.988’E
  • (N) 22 deg. 20.166’N / 114 deg. 07.050’E
  • (O) 22 deg. 20.149’N / 114 deg. 06.991’E
  • (P) 22 deg. 20.333’N / 114 deg. 06.930’E

The works will be carried out from a derrick lighter. Two tugs and one split-hopper barge will assist in the works. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.

A working area of approximately 50 metres around the derrick lighter will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the lighter and the barge.

The works will be carried out round-the-clock.

Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

DATE: July 13, 2012 – COUNTRY: Panama – PORT: Panama Canal-  Pre-Arrival information required for transit

The Panama Canal Authority has issued a reminder that all vessels arriving to transit the Canal or call at the terminal ports of Balboa and Cristobal must provide required information no less than  96 hours ahead of arrival.

In its Advisory to Shipping No.A-17-2012, the Canal Authority states that timely submittal of pre-arrival information is essential for the assignment of resources and applicable restrictions, if necessary.

Further, vessels over 150 feet LOA are required to submit Form 1743, Pre-Arrival Vessel Information, no later than 48 hours prior to arrival. The visibility from conning positions 1, 2 and 3 reported in this document shall be expressed in ship lengths calculated for tropical salt water.

Revisions to arrival information previously submitted are permitted no later than 36 hours in advance without affecting the vessel’s transit schedule, but such notification must be sent to Arqueadores@pancanal.com. Failure to do so may result in the assignment of resources and application of charges based on the previously submitted information.

Non-compliance with these requirements, or providing incorrect or incomplete information, may delay the transit or docking of a vessel.
