Global maritime and offshore oil & gas engineering company Harris Pye is highlighting its 3600 3D laser scanner for ballast water treatment system installation on its stand at SMM in Hamburg (Hall A1 / Stand 501).

“Since we announced earlier this year that we had successfully used our innovative 3600 3D scanner to survey the engine room of Neva River, the LNG carrier of “K” Line LNG Shipping (UK) Ltd, pre-ballast water system CAD design, selection and installation, there has been great interest in, and use of, the scanner and our service, ” says Harris Pye’s Group Technical Director, Chris David.

“We are looking forward to showing off the scanner’s capabilities – indeed, we will have a looped video running showing successful engine room scans. Seeing really is believing!”

Taking a full 3D scan enables Harris Pye engineers to rapidly create three-dimensional images of the entire engine room, and thus create various ballast water treatment models in order to select the best for a client.  The entire engine room survey is not only quick but causes minimal disturbance to the crew.

“The risk mitigation and cost and schedule reductions made possible by using our 3D laser scanner are of huge benefits to our customers – both in the offshore and associated onshore industrial sectors, ” says Chris David.

The scanner gathers point cloud data which is then processed by Harris Pye’s Naval Architecture team through Pointools View Pro in order to create multiple walkthrough 3D videos from the scans.

The stand features bold photographs of some of the most recent projects in which Harris Pye has been involved in Brazil, Northern Ireland and Scotland, and include planned maintenance and upgrades on a Floating Production and Storage (FPSO) vessel, and major refurbishments of offshore oil drilling rigs.

“We are looking forward to meeting many of our clients at SMM and updating them on our capabilities, ” says Group Managing Director, Mark Prendergast. “We are fielding a particularly strong team, including Chris David and Mark Tamlin, Group Technical Manager Offshore  – we know how important it is for our clients, and prospective clients, to talk to ‘men who can’.

The Group is going from strength to strength with its turnover as a whole trebling since 2007, and growing by almost 50% in the last financial year (2010/2011).
