October 23, 2013 – The International Ship Recycling Association (ISRA) congratulates the European Parliament with the overwhelming number of votes with which the new Regulation was adopted yesterday.

Chairman of ISRA Adem Simsek: “ This is great news for all the yards which have invested in green ship recycling facilities. Our members are ready to cooperate with the EU to put the wording into practise.”.

The Regulation allows EU flagged ships only to be dismantled at yards which are approved by the EU and are listed as such. These yards have to meet a number of requirements which secure new high level standards of ship recycling.

Secretary General Bernard Veldhoven adds: “ ISRA is ready to cooperate with ship owners to realize the Regulation. We need to work together to complete the goals of the EU.”

ISRA will ensure that their members will be qualified to meet the criteria of the European list of approved ship breaking yards.
