Martek Marine, UK based maritime equipment and systems manufacturer, has appointed a new Business Development Manager, Kartik Sinha. Mr Sinha joins Martek from Inmarsat, the world’s leading mobile satellite communications provider, where he was responsible for international business development across the company’s product range.

The appointment of Mr Sinha signals Martek’s expansion into the digital ship solutions and navigation market, which will be driven primarily by the launch of its own ECDIS system later this year. Mr Sinha will be responsible for driving sales and expanding into new markets.

Mr Sinha said “I’m excited to be joining Martek at the next phase of their evolution into digital ship solutions providers. Martek’s investment is a pivotal turning point, as the future lies with digital technologies. Martek are developing a number of new product lines following on from iECDIS and I’ll be spearheading the strategic development of these.”

He added, “What excites me about joining Martek is the pioneering ethos of the company, always innovating and adding value to compliance based products. Digital technologies are creating new opportunities for business and I want to position Martek at the forefront of the digital revolution in the marine industry. It is notoriously laggard in its adoption of new ideas and technology but, as the industry catches up with other industries, digital technologies will create the most opportunities.”

Martek is hosting a Machine to Machine (M2M) Marine Technology forum in early 2014 and interested participants are invited to contact Bentley Strafford-Stephenson at bentley.stephenson@martek-marine.com
