Further jump in trading volumes

03/03/2014 – February saw continuing growth in share trading volumes, and the level of activity in the stock market reached the highest level for almost 2 years.

- The level of activity in the stock market in February was the highest seen since spring 2012. The average daily value of trading in the month was NOK 4.7 billion, with 91,400 transactions each day on average. Compared to February last year, trading was up by 31.5% in value terms and the number of transactions was 16.8% higher.
- Company reports helped to boost trading volumes. 12 February, when a number of the market’s largest companies published their fourth quarter reports, was the busiest day so far this year with 122,375 transactions representing trading volume of NOK 7.2 billion.
- Morgan Stanley was the broker responsible for the biggest trading volume in February, with a market share of 13.6% of trading on Oslo Børs. The broker statistics for the month show that Merrill Lynch and DNB were in second and third place.
- The Benchmark Index gained 3.7% in February, making it the best month since October last year. So far this year the Benchmark Index has gained 1.2%, but is down by 1.7% from the all-time high reached on 21 January this year.
