It is now seven weeks that the dry market maintains its 1, 000 plus points on the BDI, but only just! The wets too are low…

In this thirty-seven weekly recapitulation of the markets and world geopolitics affecting same, tonight Friday the 26th of September 2014 John Faraclas and AllAboutShipping in London, gives you a quick recapitulation and what is to expect… So far so good, we have managed to predict the markets right and in particular comparing the current market levels with what others expected a year ago…

This 1, 049 points of the BDI’s closing this afternoon, is 11 points up since yesterday Thursday the 25th of September, but 26 points down since last week’s 1, 075 points, a 1, 198 points down from December 2013 closing of 2, 247 points – that’s an 52, 5 percent fall! In three months it will be a year since our successful prognosis of the markets and whatever happens; any Tom, Dick and Harry has spectacularly failed to prove, even an iota of the prospects presenting to the shipping fraternity…

  • The BCI closed up 15 points since yesterday at 1, 852, but 260 points down since last week’s 2, 112 points…
  • The BPI was up eight points at 807 points since yesterday, which on the other hand is down 7 points since last week’s 814 points
  • The BSI was up seven points since yesterday at 1, 053 points and 14 points up since last week’s 1, 029 points.
  • The BHSI was up just one point up at 526 points since yesterday and another 28 points plus since last week’s 498 points.

So, all in all a downwards dry market.-

The wets on the other hand, once again produced mixed …feelings, the dirty and its respective index, the BDTI, closed up 3 points at 608 which is down seven points since last week’s 615 points. The BCTI steady at 554 points, no change, but up two points since last week’s 552 points.

On the World Stage now:

  • Ukraine “looks” a bit better but more trouble is looming on the background. Be prepared for strange  “phenomena”; we warned you last week. Hungary closed  the pipeline to Ukraine; any explanation for this…
  • The Middle East and its periphery is producing the expecting upheaval and there will be will soon more tremors. The Islamic State is flexing its muscles but so does the alliance against it. What will Turkey’s policy be? And what about Iran?
  • Libya: The big melee continues there too… Militias rule the ports…
  • Europe is still trying to find a new direction… Greece is trying hard but something must be done as the Greek public’s sacrifices cannot last for ever (as it goes)… we have mentioned this last week and we reiterate our view. The pools show that the opposition SYRIZA might  easily win the next election with incalculable repercurrsions for all… Those holding in power with the cacophony of a ridiculous coalition will one day end up behind the bars. We have inserted an interesting article by Dr. Koutras and wait to see what the government has to say about it…
  • The Far East  looks quitter this week, but be on guard.
  •  In Africa, the Ebola,  spreads and this can be lethal for millions…. CAUTION!!!! Think of the trade, travel et al…
  • The high alert continues and same options should be watched worldwide, not just in the UK and countries on ISIS’s target list… We repeat: a pre-emptive intervention is a must, not just by airstrikes and proxy wars/support!  We must end this mess before it’s too late… The many incidents with arresting ISIS terrorists alike just a few hours ago in the UK is alarming…
  • On Illegal Immigration… Now is the time to curb it and not fell back. The latest incident off Cyprus involving a cruise ship and the stand –off with the immigrants’ boat from Syria says it all…
  • The 7th Capital Link London Event was more than a success. Over 320 attended. There were 30 plus delegates standing… A triumph for the Bornozis’… Now gear up for the  4th Annual Shipping & Offshore CSR Forum in London on the 4th of November…
  • The IUMI event in Hong Kong is over and we are sure you have read all these new developments, very crucial for the insurance policies et al.-
  • The World Maritime Day was duly celebrated at the IMO yesterday with a simple but interesting reception.
  • Cadwalleder’s is on the 25th of November 2014!
  • The Countdown on WISTA-Cyprus 2014 International Conference for 7-10 October 2014 continues. The big Connecting event is on its way! It promises to be a great debate on the island of Aphrodite and very close to the war zone… A chance to take the lead from there and address the Peace issue…

On another tone now…

  • The thirteenth tip for… your summer vacation, is Sri Lanka; enjoy a unique scenery and some nice tea on the shores there… A mystic island with  a new direction promises special moments for those who dare…
  • Enjoy the weekend wherever you are, but mind the weather, as amid the extended summer, particularly here in the UK, torrential rain can be the name of the game yet again..!
