GAC 01072014New fairway due law for cruise vessels
December 09, 2014, Finland, all ports

Based on the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communication’s maritime strategy, a final and lawful decision on the new temporary fairway due law applicable to cruise vessels for the period 2015-2017 has been announced.

The new unit cost will be 0, 911 x NRT/call (previously 1, 045 x NRT/call).

The maximum fairway due will be 22 250 €/call (previously 44 500 €/call).

Tonnage dues will be eliminated (previously 0, 1 x NRT, paid only on first call of the year).

The financial impact on cruise lines, especially on those who have several calls during a season, is considerable.

NEW FAIRWAY DUE EXAMPLE CALCULATION:

1. Cruise Ship X, NRT 10 000, 10 calls to Finland during a season

Fairway due 2014: (1, 045 x 10 000) x 10 = 100 450 €

Tonnage Due 2014 (paid only on first call/year): 0, 1 x 10 000 = 1000 €

2014 TOTAL 101 450 €

Fairway due 2015: (0, 911 x 10 000) x 10 = 91 110 €

Tonnage Due 2015 (eliminated): 0 €

2015 TOTAL 91 110 €

2. Cruise Ship Y, NRT 50 000, 10 calls to Finland during a season

Fairway due 2014: 44 500 € x 10 = 445 000 €

Tonnage Due 2014 (paid only on first call/year): 0, 1 x 50 000 = 5000 €

2014 TOTAL 450 000 €

Fairway due 2015: 22 250 € x 10 = 222 500 €

Tonnage Due 2015 (eliminated) = 0 €

2015 TOTAL 222 500 €
