Our thirty-fifth weekly recapitulation of the shipping markets, their respective main indices and world geopolitics affecting same in 2015 and beyond, tonight Friday the 28th of August 2015, with John Faraclas of AllAboutShipping in Athens.

  • The BDI, the Baltic Dry Index, closed down two points since yesterday Thursday the 27th of August at 903 points which is 91 points down since last week’s 994 points, very close in breaking the 900 points barrier… a… well predicted figure. This is 1, 371 points down from December’s 2013 closing or 60.5 centum!!! More than CAUTION despite the fact that, correspondingly, the freight rates and t/c’s are a bit better!!!
  • The BCI 2014 was 20 points up at 1, 071 points since yesterday, which on the other hand is 488(!!!) down since last week’s 1, 559 points – our …beloved size’s volatility…
  • The BPI was 26 points down at 974 points breaking downwards the 900 ponts barrier and also 80 points down since last week’s 1, 054 points…
  • The BSI was six points down  since yesterday at 925 points which is five points down since last week’s 930 points…and,
  • The BHSI was up just one point at 480 points which is an overall 26 points up since last week’s 464 points… Unsustainability continues…
  • The wets now: the Dirties and its BDTI index was two points down at 593 points which is 39 points down since last week’s  632 points…
  • The Cleans and its respective BCTI was also down eight points at 593 points  which is 49  points down since last weeks 645 points.
  • The price of oil …recovered a bit, but it is early days and uncertainty coupled with sanctions… careful…
  •  The Geopolitics front remains more blur…:
  • The Greek drama continues with elections set for the 20th of September and all issues are once again in limbo. The caretaking government is led by a woman for the first time in Greece’s turbulent political history. Let’s hope Mrs. Vassiliki  Thanou-Christofilou set’s the example and put the house in order – a month can do, if there is the will from all!!!!!
  • In Ukraine, the war goes on…
  • The China blues continue…. Caution…
  • The Migrants drama goes not only from worse to worse, but it will stigmatise our society worldwide and for many generations the stigma will remain….
  • The Islamic State must be defeated here and now…come on, order the ground invention !!!
  • We continue to invite the world visiting Greece and its Islands; that will counter as a plus to the troubles Greece and its people are going through. The Turkish Government by allowing the traffickers to move the migrants to  the Greek Islands not only spoil Greece’s tourism but will eventually create the worst explosion in the East Med… Otherwise, do try Ottawa, the Canadian federal capital, an interesting and very clean city!
