Free Seminars to include update on latest IHO ECDIS Standards

The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has announced the details of its ECDIS Seminars to take place at INMEX SMM Conference and Exhibition in Mumbai,  India.

The UKHO’s ‘Living with ECDIS’ Seminars will be held on each of the three days of INMEX SMM, are free to attend and have been updated to include guidance for delegates on the latest IHO ECDIS Standards and how this affects the ECDIS user-experience.

Each seminar will cover the day-to-day requirements for shipping companies, following their implementation of ECDIS, and will focus on what needs to be done to ensure the full navigational benefits of ECDIS are achieved.  The topics for discussion will include:

  • ECDIS Maintenance: Hardware and software, latest IHO Standards and ISM requirements
  • Chart Data Considerations: Coverage and quality assurance, maintenance and value added services, ISM requirements
  • ECDIS Management: Shore-based support for shipping companies, internal auditing, policy, procedures and training
  • Legal Requirements: Latest ECDIS regulations, Port State control and vetting inspections, responsibilities of the ship owner/manager

The seminars will be presented by Captain Paul Hailwood, a renowned expert on ECDIS and integrated bridge operations, and draw from the work the UKHO carries out as part of the International Hydrographic Organization’s ENC Working Group.

Looking ahead to the INMEX SMM seminars, Paul Hailwood commented:

The UKHO’s ‘Living with ECDIS’ Seminars will take place at 3.00pm – 5.00pm on 23 and 24 September and at10.00am – 12.00noon on 25 September.  The venue is the UKHO Seminar Theatre in Hall 1 of the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.

Since 2011 the UKHO’s ECDIS Seminars have provided free guidance on managing the adoption of ECDIS to several thousand people across the globe.  All seminars place the emphasis on the requirements of the audience and questions from delegates are encouraged upon registration and throughout the day to make the seminar as interactive and relevant as possible.
