Capt. Antonio M. Padron Y Santiago, “IMO Maritime Ambassador” and Maritime Authority of Tenerife, attended the “Atlantic Free Zones Forum” which was held in Tenerife earlier this month.

During the conference, Capt. Antonio M. Padron Y Santiago held a meeting with the Special Representative of the State in the Tenerife Free Zone (ZFT), Mr. Gustavo Gonzalez de Vega, who informed him about the possibilities of ZFT as a driving force of the economic development of the island and its role from the perspective of a European, American and African context.

The celebration of the “Atlantic Free Zones Forum”, international meeting, was held with the aim of the formal presentation on the island of the project “Free Mid-Atlantic Corridor”, an initiative for the connectivity between Free Zones of America, Europe and Africa led by the Tenerife Free Zone. On this context, Tenerife and Panamá will play a prominent role as terminal key points on both sides of the Atlantic.

Specifically, the Free Mid-Atlantic Corridor is defined as a system for the promotion of businesses and investments whose function is to interconnect and to motivate trade flows between the Free Zones of America, Europe, the Mediterranean and West Africa, thus reaching the strengthening of their competitiveness and capacity for expandability. The goal of this project is to consolidate a real international added value chain in which the links are always the Free Zones as dynamic instruments and facilitators of foreign trade in their respective regions.
