Inflation rate in Greece returns into negative territory in January 2016 

  • HICP inflation of -0.1% in January 2016 returns into negative territory after a temporary positive reading of 0.4% in December 2015.
  • HICP inflation at constant tax rates (HICP-CT) in January 2016 was -2.1% (from -1.5% in December 2015).
  • Convergence of the Greek HICP inflation towards the Eurozone average over the past four months may be reversed.
  • CIP in January 2016 records the 35th consecutive decrease on an annual basis with the sub-indices for clothing and footwear (-9.5%), housing (-3.7%) and miscellaneous goods and services (-3.1%) recording the sharpest drops.
