Traffic resumed after Upper Channel closure

Normal traffic has now resumed in the Houston Ship Channel, after a brief closure between 1546 and 1606 hours yesterday (9 August).The Coast Guard had ordered the closure due to a ship temporarily anchoring in the channel in vicinity of Valero Manchester, after receiving reports of a hydrogen sulfide leak at the Lyondell Houston refining facility.The source of the leak was secured, and traffic resumed.For information about operations in the USA contact GAC USA at

Permanent Restricted Area established

Owners, operators, masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels are reminded that pursuant to section 9 of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal Ordinance (Cap. 627), the Commissioner for Tourism has designated a permanent restricted area within the Terminal Area of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal as described in paragraph 2 below by a notice (G.N. 3420) published in the Gazette on 17 June 2016.The permanent restricted area is an area of water bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (E). The portion bounded by straight lines joining (A) to (D) through (E) and the waterfront is an area of water underneath concrete structure of the apron of the Terminal:
(A) 22 deg. 18.199’N / 114 deg. 12.953’E
(B) 22 deg. 18.150’N / 114 deg. 12.902’E
(C) 22 deg. 18.517’N / 114 deg. 12.493’E
(D) 22 deg. 18.556’N / 114 deg. 12.534’E
(E) 22 deg. 18.566’N / 114 deg. 12.544’EAccess to the above-mentioned permanent restricted area is subject to restrictions imposed under Cap. 627.
