The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) closed earlier on today at 773 points, that’s 28 points up since yesterday, thanks to the Capers and to a lesser extend Panamaxes’ seven points plus… Geopolitics are going to give asymmetrical correlations; John Faraclas daily recap:

The BCI 2014 rose to 1,371 points – thanks to the as ever volatile Cape-size vessels which gained 189 points since yesterday. As the title implies: don’t be lured and rush for great expectations! We are  still far below the December 2013 closing of the BDI at 2,247 points!

The Panamaxes ended the day with these valuable seven points plus and the BPI now stands at 648 points.

Bad news for the Supras going down with a double digit figure – 12 points and are close to the 700 point threshold at 702; caution.

Caution too for the Handies were the BHSI continued its losses, a minor  minus three points, but significant as over a week now fall and read 422 points…

The Hanjin saga will continue to bring tremors but there will be more to come from other companies, otherwise “robust” but everybody can catch a cold…

The Containers, whether dry or reefers are also to be watched!

The Wets again with mixed feelings: the last published BDTI and BCTI closed up 11 (528) and down seven points (427) respectively, creating hard feelings…

The price of WTI was up at US$ 46.24 and things have to be closely watched…

On the geopolitical front now:

The MIGRANTS continue to be the number one issue – then the Syrian saga and the Black Sea Manoeuvres in Ukraine and Russia. The Far East will also produce some tsunamis particularly as China re-asserts itself and Japan wants to lead the way for yet another financial and economic boom given the Abenomics sort and long term results…

Turkey’s president believes it is time to saw its teeth in the region and periphery… too late as the end is niche!

BREXIT begins to take shape now in the drawing board – a long way to go before anything is triggered!

GREXIT is ante portas “though”. You cannot have a forced marriage, so the rest of Europe will pay Greece’s wrong engagement…

The US presidential race for the White House becomes more than interesting with no clear winner as yet

The International Chamber of Shipping’s Conference today at the British Library was more than a success, not only for the issues covered, but for the heated debate! BREXIT from the shipping point of view was thoroughly covered! See respective articles herein.

That’s all for now, tomorrow it is another day! Enjoy the rest of the evening!
