The 76th Anniversary of Greece’s entering the inferno of the Second World War was celebrated in the British Capital and all over the United Kingdom at the diaspora churches.

The main event took place at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom (St. Sophia) in Bayswater’s Moscow Road. Following the Divine Liturgy, the special liturgy for the event officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain took place.

Just before the end Greece’s new Ambassador to the United Kingdom Dimitrios Caramitsos-Tziras delivered the traditional speech for the day; he was warmly applauded by the enthusiastic worshipers! Present were also the Cyprus High Commissioner  Euripedes Evriviades, the Greek Military Attache  with officers form his department,  the Greek Coast Guard, Students from the London Greek Schools and Universities, Academics, Presidents and members of the many Greek and Cypriot associations and as always members of the Greek Shipping fraternity!

We take the opportunity to remind all on Planet ocean- as in our last Friday’s Chios’ mega Greek Flag raising event, that Greece and its people demand only one thing: respect to the existing international treaties and frontiers. This has been all along, following the end of the Second World War, Greece’s only demand. The latest provocative statements by Turkey’s president and other officials are very annoying and it is about time that the international community speaks up and condemn Turkey for the escalation of provocations, needless to say the never ending violation of Greece’s air space and lately territorial  waters not just by surface Turkish warships, but by submarines.

Greece has lost the majority of its Merchant fleet in World War Two and thousands of Seafarers in all Seven Seas. We don’t wish to remind you the Honour bestowed by World Leaders for the miraculous Greek Fighters and the simple Greeks resisting Fascism in their epic fight in all fronts; it is about time the World  “returns” this to Greece and its people and not allow the EU  and certain elements and nations to further strangulate Greece and its people!

Long Live Greece! Long Live the Masters and Seafarers of the Seven Seas, Long Live the 28th of October 1940!
