Yacht race from Hong Kong to the Philippines

A yacht race from Hong Kong to the Philippines will take place from 12 April 2017 (Wednesday) to 16 April 2017 (Sunday). About 35 yachts are expected to participate in the race.

The race will commence on 12 April 2017 at 1330 hours at a place off the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter. It will follow an easterly route through the harbour, Tathong Channel and Waglan Island, thence to the Philippines.

Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity of the race routes should proceed with caution, giving practical consideration to the contestants. Compliance with the provisions of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 is mandatory.

Wire mooring ropes

Gladstone Port Authority has advised that, effective immediately, vessels with wire mooring lines are no longer be accepted for berthing at Auckland Point wharves. This includes tankers calling to Berth No.3.

The ruling has been introduced after numerous risk assessments it has been deemed that vessels using wire mooring lines pose a greater risk of causing manual handling injuries for linesman personnel.
