The BDI went under the 1,000 point threshold thanks to the Golden Week in the FarEast… The geopolitical events have deepened causing more concern. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recap:

The BDI lost ten points since yesterday and now stands at 994; it lost 115 points since last week’s 1,109 points. The fall was a bit contained given the last minute “upsurge” in the Capes…

The Capes’ BCI 2014 gained 22 points and now reads 1,480, but lost 299 since last Friday the 28th of April when it stood at 1,779 points…

The Panamaxes lost 25 points with the BPI now reading 1,023 and also lost 164 points since last week’s 1,187 points.

The Supras’ BSI also down losing 11 points since yesterday – now at 811; it also lost 50 points since last Friday’s 861!!

The Handies’ BHSI down nine points at 523 and also down 36 from the 559 points of last week.

So all in all a downwards market with the psychological limit of 1,000 broken; not to worry as there are a few more days left over of the Golden Week – charts, brokers, the lot were on vacation… Hopefully the “upturn” will come…

With mixed feelings the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) ended at 768 – plus one and 570 – minus nine; on a weekly basis they were both down from 786 – minus 18 and 620 –  minus 50!

Need to see more scrapping, we need to see an accelerated level of ships going for scarp, not just because of the new ships coming out of the shipyards, but for furthering and performing intermodalism – check this and after you study same, come back with your interpretation…

What a market! Despite being in a mess for the hoi polloi, for the few though is the best ever buyers’  market we have ever witnessed! Wonder how many can safely grasp the opportunities arising! Meantime, never ever forget that nowadays this is Shipping for the very very very few!!!

The WTI was down at US$ 45, 75 with tendencies to go above the US$ 46… Last week it stood at US$ 49, 69…We shall see…

The Geopolitical aspects are pressing in all fronts and unless the first trip abroad of president Trump is over we are on hold… Geopolitics will, at the end of the day, determine one hundred centum the course of the entire shipping spectrum…

Meantime:

The MIGRANTS throughout the week made once again headlines and remained on top in all countries that we have been reporting; all sorts of headlines… From rescue operations, particularly in the Aegean and Ionian Seas and the Greek islands there, as well as in the central Med, to unfortunate deaths, to more displacements, trafficking of all kinds on international scale and thanks for the Greek Authorities including the Hellenic Coast Guard who managed to make the necessary moves and arrest traffickers which in our view the society MUST “name and shame” as this will become a good deterrent. Equally congratulations to other Med nations Coast Guards, particularly the Italian Coast Guard!!!!!

The Wars in Syria and Iraq with the ISIS still there, although heavily bruised and with its moral falling, continues to fight. The Ground Forces please of the western Alliance is the only tangible response but in full force and numbers !! Any delay is detrimental for all. Having said this we still need to see an end to the fighting for controlling Syria and Iraq… Syrians divided, the Kurds awaiting for the final countdown and set up their mega state spanning in four countries – Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey; it is a matter of the double T – time and tactics. The super powers seems to have an understanding on this; we shall see. Having said that a bit of cooperation between the USA and Russia wouldn’t be bad… Wonder if the Russian led safe zones plan works… The sooner the conflict ends and a good Peace Deal is signed, yes signed, it will be great. If not, coupled with the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict it will create a megatons crash in the entire region AND beyond!

Turkey next door must get the message and participate in defusing the coming tension post the Syrian and Iraqi wars, seat with the Kurdish functions in all four countries mentioned above and arrange their Peaceful co-existence, otherwise expect hell – sorry, but this is it! Turkey must also learn to live with countries it borders in the west, such as Greece – a NATO ally and stop pestering the Greeks in the Aegean, dynamiting the Balkans to create another mess and also upset Cyprus, like the latest bullying so to speak with the Barbaros research vessel in the Cypriot waters… Enough!

Greece next door is also in a mess for other reasons – including of course the messy environment created by Turkey in its eastern frontiers. Internally it is about time the Muppet Puppet Show of Constitution Square – which includes all 300 (three-hundred) MP’s, resign and hand over the running of the country to a team of Aristos which we have numerous times proposed… Check our previous mentioning and see what you get… The EU must get its act together and with the IMF must end this despicable strangulation of the Greek People. Better try to bring charges against all those who embezzled the funds on purpose and destroy the Greek people. Of course you need two in a tango, so lift the veil from the Greeks who harmed the country and their counterparts in Europe! Expect strange developments as the situation continues with damn lies from all sides. There are some unique articles / analysis/ reports which are simple and verbatim address the issue… we will soon ensure you read them. They are in very safe hands now, but we intend to upload them… and then the shit will hit the fan per our article back in December 2011…

The Balkans are, as we extensively wrote recently, in a total mess; Albanians wishing to create great Albania – encouraged by others too…, the FYROM issue and its internal mess – with the situation being more than critical and explosive, Bosnia- Hercegovina also in a messy situation as Mrs. Madeleine Albright – then US foreign secretary, made it a total mess! Sorry Mrs. Albright, but that’s the truth…

The French presidential election, as said, has divided France AND Europe; lets wait to see on late Sunday night what’s gone to happen… Security alerts marred the last day of campaign as a suspected Islamist loyal to ISIS and possessing weapons was arrested; Greenpeace activists did it yet again – this time unfurling a banner from the Eiffel tower causing the concern of the authorities… Remind you that France remains in a state of emergency since the atrocities in Paris on November 2015. Caution!

The BREXIT issue really bothers the Continental Europeans and Mr. Juncker, the European Commission’s  president hint that the English language is not important  for Europe, is a palaver… With all due respect, the ball is in Mr. Juncker’s court…

In the United Kingdom the local elections were a prova generale for the forthcoming Conservative party’s win in the national elections on the 8th of June… Mrs. May and her party enjoy a great popularity!

In Africa some regions are having continued troubles; in Somalia we learn of  a US military been killed and two more being hurt/wounded – the first confirmed US combat death there since the 1993 disastrous Black Hawk Down incident, during operations against al-Shabab militants west of the capital Mogadishu, near the town of Barii… Wonder what president Trump has in mind…

In the Far East and in particular in the heavily clouded Korean Peninsular, North Korea accused USA and South Korean agents of plotting to assassinate its Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un… Caution as his nuclear missile test might trigger a wider war there…

A bit west now and India is searching militants in Kashmir – for many a serious operation; another ongoing battle there…

The Chinese are pleased to see their first commercial passenger plane by COMAC take off; Boeing and Airbus might soon feel the pressure, although it is early days. After  a surge in the shipbuilding industry, aviation is China’s next target, but…

Australians are mending their differences  with the Americans following  a refugee row  and that’s good news for president Trump following a meeting in New York…

Be prepared for despicable events leading to more mess in Venezuela…  Maduro’s backers must come out of the closet… IMF predicts that inflation will top 700 (sevenhundred) centum this year. Meantime dropping oil  exports prices have cut MADUROS’  state earnings and there have been issues of food shortages, baby milk, medicine and other basics… hence our prediction that this country is getting into more mess and hope, unfortunately that we are correct in our assessment; CAUTION!!!

On another tone now, Marine Tours organises for the fifth running year the Maritime Trends Conference 2017 at the Metropolital Hotel in Paleon Faliron, Athens, supported by Deree/The American College in Greece and Alba Graduate Business School. Will inform you when we have the write up of all deliberations that will take place tomorrow.

Have a nice evening and a nice weekend and as always be on guard for any eventuality from Pirates and Terrorists!
