CIC on Safety of Navigation including ECDIS

The Paris MoU and Tokyo MoU have announced a joint Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) focusing on the Safety of Navigation including ECDIS. The CIC aims at checking the compliance with Safety of Navigation, including Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS). This inspection campaign will be held for three months, commencing from 1 September 2017 and ending 30 November 2017

The standard questionnaire that will be used consists of 11 questions that check compliance with the applicable requirements of the SOLAS Convention, the overall status of the vessel’s navigation safety and the competency of crew involved in navigation operations. It is expected that the Tokyo and Paris MoUs will carry out approximately 10,000 inspections during the CIC. The Black Sea MoU have also announced that their CIC will focus on the same theme and run simultaneously, using the same questionnaire.
Seagull Maritime encourage their customers to prepare for the CIC inspection well in advance. We recommend a self-assessment on board using the questionnaire (downloadable from hereand you should also bring your crew up to the required standard by implementing efficient training on any areas of deficiency.

Seagull Maritime offers Manufacturer approved familiarisation on several ECDIS systems as well as an on-board course in AIS (Automatic Identification System) and several e-learning modules related to the Safety of Navigation such as COLREG, Voyage Planning, Steering Gear and more.
