essDOCS acquires TradeCert

Addition of TradeCert, a leading provider of electronic Certificates of Origin, enhances essDOCS’ expertise and solution capabilities in eCertification

Valletta, Malta, 18 September 2017essDOCS today announced its acquisition of TradeCert Limited, the Galway, Ireland-headquartered provider of electronic Certificates of Origin (eCOs).

essDOCS now operates the world’s largest eCO network of over 28,000 Exporters and Freight Forwarders applying for and receiving certificates of origin from over 200 Chambers of Commerce across 10 countries. essDOCS eCOs are used for imports into 169 countries globally.

The company is on track to offer eCOs in 14-15 export countries by year’s end, driven by organic growth and strategic partnerships with other eCO software providers and chamber solutions.

“essDOCS offers TradeCert the ability to accelerate the adoption of electronic certificates of origin globally” said Brian Smith, Managing Director, essDOCS Certification and co-founder, TradeCert. He added “through partnerships and country expansion, we expect to be able to offer eCOs throughout the globe.”

A newly-established certification arm, essDOCS Certification, will develop a best-of-class eCO platform by combining essDOCS’ two existing solutions, eCertify and TradeCert, and will invest heavily in new technologies to enable mobile and distributed ledger options to customers.

The team in Galway, Ireland, will act as essDOCS’ Center of Excellence for Certification and will be supported by essDOCS personnel in the US, UK, Greece, Singapore and Australia.

The acquisition was completed through essDOCS Ventures, the Group’s investment and partnership arm.
