…is as you read these lines enfolding at the Onassis Cultural Centre (STEGI) in Athens, Greece and continues tomorrow with nearly 1,000 registrations… The Grammenos Brigade as we call it! Iris Liaskonis is there with her camera and report:

A meticulous prepared programme with selected issues in nearly ten sessions – five of them today, to be delivered by some of Planet Ocean’s top stakeholders will for sure be the talk of the town and beyond. The event takes place at the most delicate period for Shipping and its Intermodal nature, the Global Economy and turbulent Geopolitics.

Prof. Costas Th. Grammenos

Following the opening remarks by Prof. Costas Th. Grammenos, and the points by Pro. Sir Paul Curran, president, City University and Prof. Marlanne W. Lewis, the dean of Cass Business School at City University, the second session is on with Anthony Papadimitiou, president of the Onassis Foundation – pictured and panellists Thanassis Martinos, Cyrus Ardalan, Arjun Batra, Timo Christodoulou, Emad Mansu, Prof Martin Stopford, Mohsen Ziya, Prof Eddy Van de Voorde and Hary N. Vafias.

H.E., the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos delivering his keynote speech

The president of the Hellenic Republic, H.E. Prokopis  Pavlopoulos is now delivering his keynote speech to this unique congregation.

Will revert with a full write-up.

Wishing all the best to Prof Grammenos and his academic team, the speakers and indeed the delegates from whom we eagerly expect to hear …lethal questions on today’s and tomorrow’s deliberations, but above all Kristie Loutsiou, Marlene Stapleton and their colleagues at Cass including the students for organising this event. It goes without saying that we all expect to hear something more than constructive with respect tackling Shipping risks of any kind given what has taken place over the last ten years which ended up and produced detrimental situations… Watch this space!
