Market volatility remains…

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) luckily enough gained 13 points – Agatha Christie’s book !13 for Luck” couldn’t be more than appropriate in this case to read…, and now stands at 1,458 points which is also 87 point plus since last Friday the 17th of November closing. The geopolitical front might soon become uncontrollable given what is happening beyond the existing wars, by which we mean Terrorism… John Faraclas’ daily and weekly Markets and Geopolitical recap:

The Capers continued to be as volatile as ever and today the gains of the BCI was expressed with 33 plus reaching the 3,453 points –  the rise though fell short by 89 points from yesterday’s 122 plus points… On a weekly basis the BCI gained 300 points – don’t ever mention this to Posidon, the God of the Seas…

The Panamaxes’ BPI clinched 11 points and now reads 1,295 and on a weekly basis the BPI was up 10 from last week’s 1,285 points… Our most favourite size begins, and hopefully to gain lost ground…

The Supras’ BSI maintained its upwards trend and now stand at 914 points heading hopefully back to the 1,000 points threshold – so up 15 points today and 62 since last week’s 845 points.

Not so rosy for the Handies; down two point with the BHSI standing at 620 points which is also down ten points since last week’s 630 points.

So, all in all we are five weeks away from the New Year a very important day given that the BDI is 789 point lower than that of the 31st of December 2013 – still to reach this level after almost four years! As we have numerous times stressed, this is the level we need to see in order to feel a bit safer… and make sense that the shipping investment is worth it…

The Wets still with mixed feelings overall; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 820 – minus six points and 600 – plus one respectively. On a weekly basis the Dirties were up 30 points – from 790 and the cleans up six – from 594… A bit of a caution here.

The WTI went just over the US$58 and things are getting sour for the masses… if we go over and above the US$60 expect reactions…

It is about time to remind you of the ever changing landscape in the entire shipping industry as we are heading for a shipping industry designated, not just designed, for the very very very few; an issue and may I say a reality very few have realised so far!

The Geopolitical front as mentioned in the preamble gets worse and I am afraid the things that will “appear” soon on your screen will be despicable…:

For a start the MIGRANTS are becoming an epidemic for all countries that they live this very moment, “Thanks” to the despicable and inhumane attitude of the strong and powerful nations; SHAME! Soon you will hear of more deaths of these displaced people in their effort to reach their “promised” land as well as their internal differences…

Messy situation still in Syria and Iraq… What’s likely to happen firstly in a possible post Assad era or he will be retained with Moscow’s cover… and what if Moscow forgets all about him? Meantime all the other combatants are still there and Syria looks like a no man’s land, worse than Planet Moon’s …moonscape… ISIS is defeated in the battle field but we need to ensure we eliminate all of them particularly those returning back to the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Scandinavia even in the USA!!

Iran and Saudi Arabia are at loggerheads and their behaviour might trigger unwanted situations which, alike the entire Middle East might affect the shipping industry… It’s not just the Suez Canal, but also the Straits of Hormuz and Aden to be scared of… And how will China react? What about India and Japan?

Turkey is the stumbling block in the entire region given its blackmail tactics… Wait though to see the end result… Did I hear you say Kurds; this is the next thing to happen… Wonder how president Trump will please them…

Greece next door still goes through the long and winding road… Caution as the reaction of the public from the despicable policies so far with no end might backfire and backfire for Europe too… Watch this space… we don’t need to repeat our position that an Aristos team must take over here and now… Just remember: the shit will hit the fan!

The Balkans continue to be in limbo…

BREXIT now make freak waves and let’s see the end… A very complicated issue given the stupidity of Brussels taking it for granted that no nation will exit the European Union, except if Brussels ousts same… early reports indicate that an incident in Oxford circus is not terrorist related…

Wonder what Mrs. Merkel’s next step will be and how sustainable government can she form with other parties to continue to run not just Germany, but Europe…

Spain gets ready for another Catalonian saga…

In Northern East Africa now and in particular in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula ISIS terrorists according to early reports massacred in a mosque nearly 200 worshippers with the death toll likely to rise… let’s see how president General Abdul Fattah al-Sisi retaliates… Once again we remind you of the deadly region confined Between the Straits of Gibraltar up to Afghanistan and from the Caucasus to the Horn of Africa…

China asserts very carefully the situ now enfolding also next door to its frontiers and Japan keeps as always an eye given the North Korean saga…

Pakistan is in too much trouble and a county to watch!!!

Next door in India wonder what is up with the country’s Supreme court…

Finally president Putin of Russia pursues his own agenda… on all issues…

We advise you all to be alerted for the multiple of dangers looming in the background…

Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards: All the Winners on stage!

On another tone the 14th Lloyd’s List Geek Shipping Awards was more than a great event honouring successful individuals and companies. A full house at Athenaeum InterContinental’s Ballroom with over 1,200 attendees. It was on all counts a unique event; a very touching event which also sends the message to the Constitution Square 300 MPs that Greek shipping must be preserved at all costs… The speech of the Greek Minister of Shipping and the  Aegean was beyond the norm for a left government… It was more on the right direction!!!!  We will revert Lloyd’s List Greewith a full account and the winners as well as some great and special moments for all to read… More than pleased to see winners, sponsors and supporters being friends, relatives and members of the allaboutshipping.co.uk platform in a multiple of ways! Congratulations to all for this successful event, especially to Nigel Lowry and Shelagh Ingledow!

Wish you all a nice weekend and continue to be on guard from the dangers emanating from Pirates and Terrorists looming in the background wherever you are on Planet Ocean…
