Despite the ups and downs, the hopes and worries, the expectations and projections and all that jazz, the BDI (Baltic Dry Index) remains stuck in levels which prove our worries of yet another period of discontent…  Today the BDI gained 28 points and now stands at 1,157, thanks to the small surge by the Capers and Panamaxes. Geopolitics worsening. John Faraclas daily market briefing:

The Capers’ BCI was up 80 points ending the day at 1,525 points; this was the first day after a …while to see a positive plus sign…

The Panamaxes also did better than yesterday with another 42 points plus and the BPI now reads 1,404 points…

The Supras’ BSI lost two points and now reads 911…

The Handies’ BHSI was up a point, hooray hooray and now stands at 586 points.

“Bad” news for the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 702 and 564 – minus two points for both!

The WTI this moment stand at US$ 63.95 – at a certain point it went just over the US$64 point mark at US$ 64.02… Ultra-caution should be observed!

The Containerships have still a long way to go in order to make sense and unless we see a better global economy allowing the households to purchase goods, nothing spectacular will happen given the fact that in reality the credit crunch still exists; end of the story. Moreover Chinas’ blue can now be seen…

The Stock Markets continue to enjoy some good times particularly the Dow Jones… Above the 26,000 brings in the question: for how long and at what cost after the bubble bursts…

The Geopolitical situation is getting off hand:

The MIGRANTS are about to bring governments in disarray… The EU nations cannot afford this intimidation from Turkey and its backers!

The Wars in Syria and Iraq continue – some still to get rid of any ISIS remnants, others begun – like the one with Turkey’s intrusion in Northern Syria against the Kurds. Wonder what if the Kurds go berserk…  I guess there is too much hype by the super powers involved and it’s a pity to see once again the Kurds suffering. Where’s the dignity of those who supported the Kurds against ISIS, eh?

Turkey still blackmailing everybody and everything, but the time will come for Turkey, its leaders and unfortunately for the Turkish public to pay the hefty penalty of revenge by many nations in the region that Turkey continuously pesters… Turkey’s internal situation is more than in a mess and president Erdogan wishes to entertain his problems by externalise them and cause even a war in the region surrounding his countries frontiers…

Greece next door continues to be in limbo. For sure the country will need another aid package to support the three previous ones and safeguard their purpose, otherwise expect the collapse. The Greek banks must be careful of the day after, that is to say every tomorrow! With just over 1,000,000 unemployed the country with the current 300 useless politicians is heading down the Keadas Canyon; add the counter- productive high taxation both for the business and individuals and see what you get! Did I hear you say foreign policy matters – the current issue on Greece’s northern morphoma – I mean the FYROM on the name issue rests basically with the superpowers and their treacherous actions; end of the story. Remind you that during the late King Paul’s  (Greek king) visit in Belgrade in the early 50’s to meet Field Marshall Tito, the Americans advised the Greeks not to strain their relations over the name he gave on this morphoma republic within the federal Yugoslavia context… Shall we go a bit further with the relations with Greece’s eastern neighbour… Turkey… eh?  Shame! Shame as the EU’s inability and situ under duress from the other side of the Atlantic and Putin’s romance of convenience with president Erdogan can create a real mess in the entire region and periphery.

BREXIT, the name of the game. We strongly believe that same is for the benefit of the UK and all its Commonwealth! We love to see the GREXIT and FREXIT too. Meantime there are warnings of an unprecedented destructive cyber attack against the UK and other nations by Russia; Putin escalates the tension in all fronts. If this is fake news, then what is real news, eh? Time will tell but all signs are there… Obviously president Putin has to protect Russia’s vested interests all over Planet Ocean, but…

Davos gets thumbs ups as we will soon find out the results in the slippery slops and what to expect. President Trump has to use his best diplomacy… Meantime in his interior the Russian factor vis-à-vis the election campaign etc etc is getting close to unwanted results. We shall see!

North Korea still has to settle down… as Iran and Israel over the Palestinian issue. Having said that, all things being equal, the entire Arab, Muslim or whatever you call it must accept the existence of the Israeli State. Israel too must accept the creation of a real Palestinian State; end of the story as otherwise – you dead well know what otherwise means…

On another note we are all geared for tomorrow’s forum by Marine Money in London’s Dorchester Hotel on  “Optimism and Opportunity” and shall revert with a full report.

More news tomorrow, until then be on guard from any eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists looming in the background wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
