The BDI as expected yesterday, given our title of our daily report, lost 23 points and went below the 1,200 point threshold; Geopolitics slide too… John Faraclas daily recap:

The Capers BCI lost 36 points and now stand at 1,748…

The Panamaxes BPI lost 35 and now read 1,450 points…

The Supras’ BSI was down six points and now stands at 889; …equally the Handies’ BHSI was down seven points to 566…

We issue a CAUTION for the entire Dry Market as the gap from the December 2013 news/report is widening – 2,247 minus 1,191= 1,056 points. Obviously we eagerly await the Chinese New Year in just over a fortnight and ascertain if the Dog is barking… If the Market doesn’t rise to at least the 2,000 point mark, then not just anything, but everything is possible – don’t rule out though the element of surprise…

The Wets with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 679 – minus three and 637 – up 14 points respectively; the latter was the only positive index!

The Container trade needs per mare per terra further consolidation if, repeat if we want to see some better days; and speed too…

The WTI as these lines are being written dropped a bit and now stands at US$ 64, 45 with tendencies to go up a bit but then, a falling ending in January (tomorrow) might possibly come…

All in all a very strange period also given that tomorrow, actually in less than nine hours we are going to have a full moon, a blue moon and a red moon…

As we have witnessed today, Wall Street was down with the Dow Jones losing 362 points and now stands at 26,078. NASDAQ was down too at 7,402 points. S&P500 was also down – nearly once centum at 2,822… The Euro made gains again… the parity with the US Dollar stood at 1, 24102… Athex was down too – slightly over two centum at 868 points and FTSE …followed suite at 7,587 – just over one centum down…

A strange economic environment amid warring crackles…and the politicians as well as the diplomats AND the business must do best to avoid the spread of war… Unfortunately we are at war!

As we repeatedly mention in our reports over the last two years, the Geopolitical situation is getting …at best worse all the time:

The MIGRANTS are about to divide the European Union AND Europe at large… It is the number one issue all over Planet Ocean with incalculable repercussions for all; breakage of social cohesion, danger from hidden terrorists creating cells and others acting or will act as sleeping ducks… following ISIS defeat…

The unending Wars in Syria and Iraq, with the latest flare up due to Turkey’s interference, might spread and we recently mentioned the Balkans tinder box that might erupt, given the pathetic behaviour of the superpowers… Despicable aides and envoys with their own geostrategic –  and even religious interests,  might ignite WWIII, for which we already hear its drums…

You don’t need to be told on the chronic Middle East problem… things there might go off hand…

Turkey’s pathetic behaviour against all the counties in its periphery continues…

Greece enters a crucial period as we speak, bringing together all problems and sufferings – internal and external… The latest developments with the name of its northern morphoma state of FYROM on the issue of its name might open both the Pandora’s Box of Revelations as well as the Aeolus’ pouch… Greece is under duress from NATO and the EU… Time will tell of another coming boomerang for all…

Spain fights by all available means NOT to lose Catalonia…

The BREXIT saga continues and now more openly the main issue can be seen; the aftermath of the Second World War with Germany being the issue, prompting the German Ambassador to say that Brexitiers must stop fixating on WWII… Britain stood alone then and it remains to be seen what the British can do now. In my humble view there is something sinister going on and I reiterate the view that the United Kingdom in the long run will do better outside the EU given the way Germany behaves in many fronts – the strangulation of Greece for example and in particular the Greek people is monumental – but remember: History has twists and turns as well as many repeats… Meantime those asking Mrs. May to quit are shooting their feet…

By the way, Germany is still without a government and let’s see if the Germans and their politicians form the Big Coalition…

Italy in political and financial mess…

France isn’t be doing as expected…

In the USA president Trump is expected to deliver a very special message in his maiden State of the Union speech on the “new American Moment”; he tries to unite the Democrats too and create a strong political basis for the sake of the American people. His ratings though are falling whilst the US economy gets better… a very oxymoron situ. We shall see.

Russia tries to flex its muscles and with China will “pester” the USA in all fronts.

Japan is watching in the side-lines…. The Pacific Rim is also an issue for all.

India might try to become a better China so to speak and then a multiple of competition will began; will same be an imperfect competition?

Africa with too many problems and one should be very cautious despite the great potential Africa has…

In Latin/South – Central America things are getting sour…

Australia sees some good figures and future; a land becoming the promised land soon…

Towards the finale!

On another note and tone – indeed on another tone, we were privileged – thanks to the HESGB and its president Dimitris Monioudis initiative to attend the Dionysis Savvopoulos’ concert with the up and coming Katerina Polemis at the Union Chapel in Islington; what an evening that was. A sold-out event brought  joy to  hundreds of the London Greek Diaspora members and beyond as well  to their international friends residing in London – 800 is the capacity of the Union Chapel and above all we were more than pleased to listen to amazing songs most of them being sea-songs! What you expect from Planet Oceans number one Islands / Sea Nation! Art, music and singing, painting, sculpture under the sea-factor.  Congrats also to the three musicians Giotis Kiourtsoglou, Vangelis Kapiris  and Stathis Anninos accompanying Savvopoulos and Miss Polemi, as well as to ARK4ART,  the organisers of the event. Last time round Savvopoulos was in London back in 2001 producing a great event at London’s Hellenic Centre; we were also more than pleased and content with the progress of Katerina Polemis since the last time we attended an event, were she excellently performed at a charity event in the Yacht Club of Greece back in May 2012. A very touching moment towards the finale was that when Katerina Polemis went up to the pulpit laying the blue and white stripes Greek Flag! We must also stress that the biggest group attending this unique performance was the London Greek Shipping Fraternity! Lastly Cultural Diplomacy pays off, the hidden ingredients of Greece’s power.

That’s all for now; have a nice evening and be on guard from any eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists wherever you are in Planet Ocean!
