The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) closed earlier on today at 1,346 points – up 19 since yesterday, thanks to the Capers’ “monologue”… Geopolitics become crucial once again- don’t be naive as the quiet/downgraded so to speak news are just dust; the harsh reality is that we are at War! John Faraclas’ midweek recap:

The Capers’ BCI was up 61 points and now stands at 2,197 points… Volatility and uncertainty will continue to rule this size, particularly after returning to the previous pre-Xmas levels (close to 2,800)…

All other Dry Indices remained grounded; the Panamaxes’  BPI and the Supras’ BSI had not changed – 1,271 and 1,043 as per yesterday’s closing.

The Handies’ BHSI dropped, as expected, below the 600 point-threshold; minus four points and now reads 597.-

The Wets in red; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 655 – minus one and 560 – minus seven respectively…

The WTI as these lines are being written stands at US$ 67.92 very close to yesterday’s closing at US$ 67.25…. CAUTION!

More and more newbuilding orders are aired and more are concluded every single day; in two to three years’ time there is gone to be a total recall… All change in five year’s time…  Shipfinance: too difficult these days, hence we believe that shipping will become d e f i n i t e l y  Shipping for the very very very few. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) another issue…

The Euro / Dollar parity makes waves… Do we need a weak US Dollar, and if yes, what’s next…

The Geopolitical situation remains dramatically as well as enigmately perplexed:

MIGRANTS still on top of all issues… The Wars in Syria and soon the spreading in Iraq… The Iranian and Saudi antagonism for the control in the Middle East; Israel feeling nervous… Turkey pestering everybody in the region… Meantime downgraded and for sure bankrupt… The BALKANS will definitely explode… Greece in tatters from within and abroad… Too much to and fro accusations particularly between the two main parties; will PM Tsipras call a snap election? Losing or winning the situation will become more explosive… Can he sort out the scandals in Greece so we all know who has actually and evidently fiddle public money? Italy still without a government. The BREXIT issue becomes very difficult as details and borders count a lot…  Cambridge Analytica shutting down;  let’s see who has the guts  to comment but need to see a punishment!!! Let’s don’t be naive! USA president’s game with the tariffs continues… North Korea has to dump all nuclear weapons and “accessories”; Trump’s message is straight and explicit! China, Japan and India watching with interest… Wonder what French president Macron and German Chancellor Merkel gained from their meeting at the other side of the Atlantic… Tax Havens, Laundered Money, Terrorists, Drug Barons, Pirates and Criminals are about to have a complete overhaul… Alea iacta est (“The die is cast“)… It is about time but for all; don’t discriminate… As for the GDPR let’s see what happens next, but one needs a full coverage and in particular an end to hackers; end of the story.-

Tsirigotis’ figures

On another tone and note don’t miss the private viewing tomorrow Thursday the 3rd of May at the Lefas Municipal Gallery of Psyhikon  at 15 I. Kokkoni Street in Athens,  were Dimitra Tsirigoti and Irene Agiakatsika present their latest work.  Titled “Sailing and Searching Figures in Colour” both artists employing all their knowledge  with interesting colours and themes will enhance our mind and imagination for a real Sailing and Search. Tsirigoti will go for human figures in a “libo” situation between reality and dream fantasy; Agiakatsika goes for the Ships, Merchant ships,  either sailing or idle as well as completely perished depicting them through her multi colour pallet and showing their dynamism and looks…

Have a nice evening and be on guard from any eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists wherever you are on Planet Ocean.-
