The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) ended earlier on today at 1,432 points – that’s 48 points higher since last Friday the 4th of May, thanks to the as ever volatile Capes which produced another spike… Wold Peace is in disarray as Geopolitics as we expected and stated in writing –  after  some well in advance warnings, more perplexed than ever before! John Faraclas’ brief market report:

The Capes’ BCI was up 145 points and now stands at 2,482… Caution as it might fall again deep down – just wait and see the downwards …spike…

The Panamaxes lost eight points with the BPI now reading  1,257 points – wonder what’s happening here, despite being for us the best size – and we stick to our verdict!

A point plus for the Supras’ BSI ..”wasn’t” bad at all – now standing at 1.051 points…

The fall continued for the Handies with the BHSI now reading 585 – minus four points…

So all in all a Capes dominated Dry Market and wonder what’s next given also the latest mess in Geopolitics…

The Wets with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans)  stood at 650 – plus two and 545- minus one…

The WTI as these line are being written stood at US$ 69.80 having gone above the US$ 70 mark… CAUTION; end of the story…

The Geopolitics given the latest on Iran with president Trump pulling out of the nuclear deal, raises more than the drums of War – for us the War is on!

The MIGRANTS still on top from all issues put together and given president Trump’s pull-out from the Iranian so called nuclear deal, expect a ten-fold increase of Migrants purring into Europe. Over the last five days the influx of Migrants has been monumental, deaths from drowning too… The Greek PM’s visit in the Island of Lesvos another mess… The illegal and pathetic involvement of some NGO’s on the Migrants, has re-surfaced given their dubious role on many issues – they even organised trips to bring Migrants over from Turkey…
One day the MIGRANTS issue will rock Europe to its foundations!!!!

Turkey greatly contributes to the spilling over of the MIGRANTS mess… Despicable… as always attitude and blackmail… we all await to see what happens with the forthcoming elections as the Turks and now under Erdogan, are notoriously known for their unpredictable actions ever since they come in the Eastern Med basin – 1,000 (one thousand ) years ago; they are champions. Turkey stir up all nations it borders with, particularly NATO “allies” Greeks… Violating Greece and Europe is for a start a gross mistake but we are confident that Turkey will be split up… Going over the top with unfounded issues backfires… Still a bankrupt nation might cause further issues… My question: are we ready to receive in Europe four million more MIGRANTS currently stationed in Turkey? And what about those coming from Africa – from Gib to Egypt… In Libya, this lawless country expect more… Shame.

Greece lives very interesting times on all fronts; a country to watch in its entirety…  Hope the country capitulates from the forthcoming Posidonia with events beginning as early as the 16th of May and a finale on the 8th of June!!  All must see the successful Greek shipping example and wonder: why not Greece to flourish!

The Wars in Syria and Iraq continues with Assad forces forcing out rebels and others from Damascus nearby enclave and allowing them to go to regions they control… Deals with the enemy?? Poor humans, people, old people and children being once again victimised!! SHAME

From the other side of the Atlantic now: The Iran nuclear deal is over, as expected from this medium – given the uneasy and very stressful discussions president Donald Trump had with his main partners, Macron, Merkel, May and Abe… Does he take the Chinese advise…? The hint was there even before… No Obama issues, deals or whatever seems to be accepted by the current US president. If the Middle East and its periphery was in tatters, the Armageddon is coming back – once again. Israel, as always ready, expressed its readiness as there might be attacks affecting its security… Retaliation will be lethal, but this not enough as it will trigger worse things… Despite the dismay of the Europeans and Iran’s supreme leader that they will try to save the deal and confront the US, respectively things will soon be uncontrollable and expect despicable things to happen, which for sure will affect shipping… One thing that many feel uneasy and others very happy is that that the US Navy has said it will re-establish its Second Fleet, as Russia becomes more assertive. That announcement happened last Saturday; watch this space… never also forget the archrivals Saudi Arabia and Iran following these developments…

Vladimir Putin is sworn-in as Russia’s president yet again. Let’s see how he will use this term and how he tackles the USA, Europe, Eastern Ukraine – Crimea is over and done with; Syria and many other issues. Above all the energy mattes, matters for him too but on another dimension…

BREXIT still with many twists and turns promise surprises for all; follow the developments!! Too many issues lie ahead… Mrs. May has still a lot to do!!

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla are on an official visit to Greece! A very useful visit for both counties!

Meantime we witnessed a record, temperature-wise of 28.7C during yesterday’s Bank Holiday!!!
And what do you make of 33 year old Martin Horn who was elected mayor of Freiburg in south Germany who received a blow whilst he was celebrating his win and had a broken nose and tooth…? I guess that Mr. Horn, as an independent candidate, must find an independent way to appropriately respond…

Fresh from knocking out the long-time mayor of Freiburg in south-west Germany in a surprise election victory, Martin Horn was celebrating his success when a man hit him in the face. Mr Horn, a 33-year-old independent candidate, had his nose broken and a tooth knocked out in the attack, and had to be treated in hospital.

Italy in tatters; where is diplomacy, where is the Bauta the most advanced “weapon”, the political asset of the most Serene Republic of Venice… “inherited” by all Italians – you dead well know what I mean… Are we going for yet another elections; a government by technocrats or another mess threatening for another -EXIT ?

China tries to reassert itself given president Trump’s tariffs and all the Trade Wars – yes Wars in plural…
How will the North Koreans respond in the forthcoming meeting of their leader with his US counterpart? What are China’s “instructions”? How the South Koreans view all this and who will guarantee eternal Peace all over the Korean peninsula? Japan is closely watching in the background…

Don’t cry (again) for me Argentina… Argentina asked the IMF for assistance… Now you know why Greece should be very careful on how it shorts-out its dealings with its lenders… Let’s see what happens in Argentina!!! It is in my humble view a new SOS!!!

Venezuela enters deeper in an unprecented crisis; even the Warao tribe took refuge in Brazil… Mess, mess, mess…
Planet Ocean is on fire…

On another tone and note, the long expected speech of the US Ambassador at the Piraeus Marine Club was more than a success given the most powerful congregation ever – who wasn’t there, proving the mutual support of Planet Oceans superpowers: The USA – as THE superpower and Greece for controlling shipping, end of the story!

All in all a very fruitful working luncheon with Guest Speaker the very eloquent Mr. Geoffrey R. Pyatt, The Ambassador of USA to Greece, accompanied by his wife Mary. He was warmly welcomed by the President of PMC, Ms Irene Daifas, and the President of the BoD of The Propeller Club Mr. George Xiradakis.

In his opening remarks, His Excellency expressed his pleasure for being amongst so many stakeholders, he referred to the Greek shipping miracle adding that Greeks are justifiably so proud of their achievements. Main issues discussed were the role and contribution of USA in revitalizing the Greek shipping industry after World War II (with the Hellas Liberty reminding the hundreds of Liberties offered to Greek shipowners) and on other occasions throughout history.

The American Ambassador flanked by his wife Mary and Irene S. Daifas – and what a wonderful caricature; it will make the round all over Planet Ocean!

Moreover expressed his optimism about the geopolitical and financial situation in Greece, that the US investors are expected to assist Greece in the present crisis by referring to specific examples. Answering relevant questions of the attendees, he clarified that USA Embassy have streamlined the processes of issuing maritime visas and facilitating access to the USA for seafarers. The intention of building strong partnerships between US and Greek Maritime Academies was admitted as well as the necessity to revive the Maritime Academies in Hydra, Chios and Andros.

On a final point, the importance of AMVER Awards was noted, as a means of improvement of the Greek brand name in the USA. Congratulations to the sponsors ABS, The American Club, Franman and Tsakos Group of Companies.
