The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) closed earlier on today up, yes up 19 points at 1,472, thanks – once again, to the predictably unpredictable and volatile Capes. It was also up 92 points since the 4th of May (from 1,384). The Geopolitics, as we have warned you, get worse at a faster pace than anticipated… John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recap:

The Capes, following yesterday’s fall, “rebounded” by gaining 65 points with the BCI now standing at 2,630 points. On a weekly basis the gains topped 293 points – from 2,337! What can you say and how one can be protected from such volatile developments…

The Panamaxes’ BPI lost just one point and now reads 1,245; on weekly basis the loss was twenty points – from 1,265…

A point plus also for the Supras’ BSI now at 1,053; up three points since last week’s 1,050…

Stagnation and fall for the Handies’ BHSI; on the day the index remained unchanged at 584 points but on a weekly basis same was down five points – from 589 points.-

So “it’s the Capes stupid…” to paraphrase the well-known Clinton buzz  …maxim “it’s the Economy Stupid…”. As numerous times have explicitly stressed: one size cannot create a market and no one can take it that the Dry Market is “performing” simply because the Capes are doing well – when in this instance we all know that the Capes simply are returning to their previous levels. Also, as said a few days ago, many are unhappy with the Indices figures as the Dry Market makes money… something doesn’t properly correlates…

The Wets remain stagnant; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 656 points – no change and 540 – down point respectively; on a weekly basis the Dirties were up eight points – from 648 and the Cleans were six points down – from 546… A very dangerous zone so to speak…

The WTI as these lines are being written stands at US$ 71.01 – a bit losing ground and let’s hope so… Since last week it was up nearly two and a half dollars (from US$ 68.30)… Ultra-caution should be observed… Can we afford another oil crisis amid this global financial collapse and credit crunch?

The newbuilding spree continues; good luck to those who can afford same –  hard luck to those unable to get the funding… Either way very soon we will reach a “peak” with a substantial overcapacity and the shit will hit the fan…

The Geopolitics, following the exchange of missiles between Iranians from their Syrian basis and the Israelis’ counter will produce some more million of MIGRANTS; the last thing will be the uncontrollable expansion / spill over with incalculable repercussions for all and same will 1,000% (yes you read correct, onethousand centum) affect shipping… Remember the WAR is already on; wake up!

The Migrants despicable saga continues, a sign of political and diplomatic impotency so to speak. What a shame in 60’s, 70’s and 80’s for the Universities all over Planet Ocean not to be able to produce capable statesmen and stateswomen – you might this word, eh! so that in 2018, that is today, to see giving Peace a Chance… but you dead well know that on the antipode remains the team, the group of business, diplomatic, political, religious hooligans making it possible for the mess, the execution of people and the smashing of the dignity of many nations… to thrive! SHAME. No excuses please!

The perplexed Wars in Syria and Iraq are beginning to produce more mess, more deaths, more migrants, more ecological disasters for which nobody bothers to mention – despite all the MEPC’s results and the Climate Change Agreements on the GHG and all that jazz… more arms sales, and some “arms sales cancellations”… unsurprisingly it is a thriving global industry now close to about US$100bn per annum… Unofficially could be a triple …

I am sure the confrontation will escalate so, ensure your risk assessment plans can produce results as otherwise you will be wiped-off in a multiple of ways. Can The Arab World recognise here and now unconditionally The State of Israel? Simultaneously, can The State of Israel here and now recognise unconditionally The Palestinian State? Let’s see who wants Peace and who doesn’t as we are fed up with all these morons attitude… No excuse please!!

Iraq goes to the pulls for the first time after defeating the ISIS criminals; let’s see what happens there…

Saudi Arabia has problems too and Riyadh is coming constantly under attack… CAUTION.  Yemen is another dangerous hot spot which might upset us…

Turkey continues to stir up the region in a multiple of ways; pestering all its neighbours and “supposed to be allies” and allies – who can trust Erdogan’s Turkey now that the shit has hit the fan… : Involvement in Syria, in Northern Iraq, actually called Kurdistan, pestering the Italian (ENI’s) drill ships in the Cypriot EEZ – a EU nation whose part in the north is being occupied by Turkish forces since 1974 and recognised ONLY by Turkey, pestering Greece, another EU nation and member of NATO too; stirring up the Balkans under a religious and geopolitical pretext… Pushing Albania to upset the Geek-Albanian relations, same also for fYroM… See who is talking: Turkey, the continuous sick man of Europe…, once again bankrupt… President Erdogan is upset with the ratings from all the A1 rating agencies and in return accuses Greece… Once again: see who is talking!!! The most despotic of all leaders who cannot digest what is Democracy – a Greek word after all, is all about!! Turkey has become a pariah nation and let’s hope the forthcoming elections change something, even a bit… Above all the UN must reprimand Turkey for allowing the MIGANTS to cross over to Greece an EU state!! Who is the patron of Erdogan’s Turks? How come NATO’s second largest Army cannot hold the MIGRANTS and keep a blind eye in letting them go…? Has ever the UN count how many MIGRANTS lost their lives during the process of crossing over to the Greek Island and the problems they create there to the local communities?

We all await to see how internal peace works in Armenia… Watch this space!!

Greece still lives in a limbo; no one as it seems knows what next. The pity is that Pythia is not there at the Delphi Oracle to tell us what’s next… With Posidonia just 25 days away, let’s how this government can capitulate for the benefit of the Greek people and Greece… Revive here and now the shipbuilding, shiprepair and conversion industry !!! Induce youngsters, men and women to become seafarers… They must also built a training vessel for cadets, no excuses please…

In Italy the “hope” rests for …a possible return of Silvio Berlusconi… You bet? Time to see a government there… Can the populists form one, eh! Eh echo…

Spain still faces the Catalonian issue… Let’s see how this saga ends up… In the meantime Catalonia’s Carles Puigdemont opts out of presidency… what’s the deal then?

Interesting developments on the BREXIT issue… According to the media, British PM Teresa May “has divided her top team of ministers into two working groups to hammer out their differences on Brexit”… The issue arose as the cabinet is a bit split vis-à-vis the proviso on how to tackle customs arrangements with the European Union… with two options from within the British government things get tough as the EU has also its own agenda… Mrs May favours a frictionless trade without the need for a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic! Wait and see… After all nothing is easy or done unless we see the finale!

Germany asserts itself as the super power of Europe and feels uneasy with US president Trump’s attitude over the Iranian nuclear deal… France follows suit, what else for president Macron… Britain too has reservations… On top of all energy issues with Putin’s Russia – were Europe with the American designated sanctions and barriers, mainly Germany and then France and then all the other nations “depend” so to speak” from the Russian energy factor… they should had assisted Greece in producing oil and within the EU they would all have benefited… Any objection? Contrary to logic they supported Turkey over the “dispute” with Greece and at the end of the day Europe suffers as Turkey from the main crisis of 1967, and 1974 creates havoc in the entire region… What a palaver of silly EU (and former EEC) policies…

At the other side of the Atlantic seems that president Donald Trump is advancing with the North Korean issue and we might see developments soon… we all though await the meeting in Singapore… Until then …nothing mattes much and very little mattes at all… where is Aristotle… The Trade War will go ahead as well as the Ian saga will be handled appropriately… It’s who has the upper hand… One thing at a time though…

China is closely watching all development but not watching …properly Eurovision as EBU has barred Mango TV, one of China’s most popular TV channels from airing the song contest after it censored LGBT elements of the competition.

Japan is watching all Planet Ocean’s developments and rightly so. One of the most powerful nations in all fronts, a major shipping nation too, cannot be excluded from the major decision and Abe does a great job as well as all his countrymen…

In South America, all eyes are looking to Argentina… What’s next there? What will the IMF decide following Argentina’s request for help before another financial catastrophe…? This time it won’t be tackled and chaos will be the name of the game…  Venezuela too in tatters… CAUTION is the only word to apply for the entire  Latin / South America region…

In Africa and in particular at the Democratic Republic of Congo the UN says  that some 400,000 children are at risk of starving to death… What can you do?  In the  Kensai region thousand of people fled to the bush… no food, no water, many are dead… Mind me the Kensai region was one of the most prosperous and peaceful in DR Congo… Now chaos rules the day eve since 2016 due to unprecedented violence… Pity!!!

In Oceania now; in New Zealand scientists have documented what they believe is the largest wave ever recorded in the southern hemisphere 23.8 meters eclipses a 23.03 meters wave south of Tasmania in 2012…

On another tone and note and further to our last night’s reporting from Prince Charles’ and the Duchess of Cornwall Athenian day, today they were down to the Island of Crete.

At Knossos, the famous Great City of Cities that tells all about the Minoans and their legacy,  the Prince was briefed by Prof. John Bennet, director of the British School at Athens who gave them a tour…

Afterwards they visited the village of Archanes were they joined dancers with traditional dresses for a pentozali and siganos dance! What an experience!!

Lastly as we are still in.. Greece we are pleased to see the 10th  Panhellenic Congress of Small Islands taking place on the Island of Tilos in the Dodecanese  from today until Sunday the 13th of May. The theme this year is: Pathos for Life…  Environment, Transport and Entrepreneurship.  A great chance for the participants to set the record straight and save these small but very important islanders’ communities; it is about time. we will revert as coincidentally two alumni from my college AKSS (the Anargyrios and Corgiallenios College of Spetses)  are there… Now what another coincidence given that Isidore Lemanis is in Crete (See the above two paragraphs as the photos emanate from him) …

Have a nice weekend and be on guard from any actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists and all other dangerous / criminal groups and individuals looming in the background wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
