The BDI gained 17 points earlier on today and now reads 1,413; on a weekly basis same was up 47 points (from 1,366) thanks mainly  to the Supras and Handies which “kept” the pace up… Geopolitics are marred with all the issues we have extensively covered all these last six  years. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recap:

The Capes’ BCI was up just two points  at 1,840 and on a weekly basis same was down 60 points (from 1,900)… A bit of an odd size, and thanks to Posidon as there aren’t so many Capes and Capes owners in the market today in comparison with all other dry sizes… You need a lot of financial support – own, other’s private equity or IPOs

The Panamaxes’ BPI was up 29 points and now reads 1,586; on a weekly basis same was up 63 points – from 1,523  “balancing” the Capes’ loss of 60 points…

The Supras’ BSI clinched six points and now reads 1,175. The weekly result was substantial with 41 points been added – from 1,134 !

The Handies too had both a mild day with the BHSI at 617, that’s five points up and a better even weekly figure which was more than a good one: 29 points, up from 588 points!

The Wets managed a better day but not a week as the weekly figures were mixed as the norm “dictates”… The last published BDTI (Dirties) stood at 780 – that’s seven points and BCTI (Cleans) clinched four points surpassing the 500 point mark and now reads 503! The weekly figures were ten points plus for the Dirties – from 770 and 511 for the Cleans – down eight… Caution…

The WTI stood at US$ 70.68, still an unfavourable level. On a weekly basis same was up given last week’s closing at 68.99… Dangerous scenarios are overhead for the oil prices… We reiterate that the WTI should not exceed the US$ 49.99!

On the Geopolitical front now:

Migrants retain the lead with a despicable handling from the politicians of all nations, particularly Europeans; SHAME! Not only the humanitarian issues have evaporated … emissioned – using a shipping tem, not only the social cohesion has been broken, the  death row is dangerously rising particularly with men, women, children and infants being drown in the Aegean Sea as well as all over the North and Central Africa coast… Add the fact that among all those MIGRANTS there are Terrorists and Criminals and see what you get… SHAME SHAME SHAME.

The Wars in the entire Middle East region and its 1,500 miles periphery as well as the belt for Gib (Gibraltar)  to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa continue with extreme ferocity; spreading is the issue though as you never ever know what’s next…

Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, East Med, the Balkans and Italy are in a very perplexed condition… Turmoil here also at its best…

The BREXIT saga might offer some asymmetrical situations and surprises so better all involved from both side of the Channel be extremely careful, very careful, but overall it will be for better day in the United Kingdom. Our message: Hands off Mrs. May! Let’s see who will bear the responsibility if she’s toppled! Let her conclude the BREXIT in a fashionable British way. Europe needs a robust leader and this is Ms. May.

The Trade Wars intensify and let’s see how president Trump deals with both the Russians and the Chinese… The Dow Jones hits high but let’s see the end result as you need a healthy Global economy too… The FTSE 100 despite the BREXIT saga does well…

Reverting with more news later on…

Still day light and the first-comes-first …on order…

On another note and tone the HESGB first post “summer” gathering off Father Thames’ Founders Arms was more than a success!

It couldn’t have been a better choice in such a vibrant environment and jovial mood!  Nice dips and drinks but above all catching up following the exceptionally attended summer BBQ and networking as usual at its best!

The perplexed shipping markets – both Dry and Wets (most agreed that there is no historical nor current correlation between the Indices’ figures and the freight rates), the long running saga with BREXIT which lately continues with many twists and turns, the summer holidays and coming up conferences and events at the forefront of discussions.

Smiling faces…

Good to see young and new members too and hope the Society organises a conference too on the State of the Shipping Industry – a technical-wise so to speak forum! Women HESGBs too made their presence felt! Excellent!

In Chios, Greece the rich, famous et al begin to arrive for the exceptional  1st Navigator Decision Makers Weekend; we will keep you fully posted… as Galatia Paradisis is there as well as we will run a full report following the completion of this event!

Have a nice evening as well as a nice weekend and continue to be on guard from any eventuality emanating from Pirates, Terrorists and Criminals whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean…
