For approximately 2 months, marine site investigation works involving drilling of boreholes [is being] carried out in the following works areas:

WORKS AREA 1
This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D):
(A) 22 deg. 22.743’N / 114 deg. 16.286’E
(B) 22 deg. 22.742’N / 114 deg. 16.291’E
(C) 22 deg. 22.733’N / 114 deg. 16.290’E
(D) 22 deg. 22.734’N / 114 deg. 16.284’E

WORKS AREA 2
This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (E) to (H):
(E) 22 deg. 22.720’N / 114 deg. 16.281’E
(F) 22 deg. 22.719’N / 114 deg. 16.291’E
(G) 22 deg. 22.714’N / 114 deg. 16.290’E
(H) 22 deg. 22.715’N / 114 deg. 16.280’E

The works [are being] carried out by one special purpose vessel. Yellow flashing lights [are] installed at the four corners of the special purpose vessel to indicate its position. One tugboat [is providing] assistance.

The hours of work are from 0700 to 1900 hours. No works are carried out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works stay in the works areas outside the hours of work.

Vessels engaged in the operations display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

Seawall reinstatement works at Tseung Kwan O

For approximately 2 months, seawall reinstatement works [are being] carried out within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shoreline:
(A) 22 deg. 18.081’N / 114 deg. 15.707’E
(B) 22 deg. 18.044’N / 114 deg. 15.707’E
(C) 22 deg. 18.044’N / 114 deg. 15.624’E
(D) 22 deg. 18.081’N / 114 deg. 15.624’E

The works [are being] carried out by one derrick lighter. One tugboat [is providing] assistance.

A working area of approximately 15 metres around the lighter [is] established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights [are] laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the lighter.

Silt curtains, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, [are] established within the works area. The silt curtain is a large piece of netting used to contain mud and sediments. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtains.

The hours of work [are] from 0700 to 1900 hours. No works [is being] carried out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works stay in the works area outside the hours of work.

Diving operations [are being] carried out from time to time during the hours of work.

Vessels engaged in the operations display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and keep clear of the works area at slow speed, bearing in mind there are divers working in the works area.

Water depths in inner channels & approaches

Effective 1 November 2018, the minimum water depth of the inner channel of Jebel Dhabi Ruwais Port has been modified to read as per below.

In determining their maximum draft while maintaining the minimum required under keel clearance, as per the Petroleum Ports Regulations, Masters of deep draft vessels entering or leaving Jebel Dhana Ruwais Port, particularly loaded vessels, must pay due regard to the water depth limitation within the outer navigating routes between Zaqqum TSS and Gasha anchorage.

Vessels drawing drafts of more than 14 meters, both arriving and departing Jebel Dhanna Ruwais Port, shall submit their UKC/Draft Calculations to the Harbo Master’s office prior to transiting.

National strike looming

Business activities in Nigeria may again be paralysed for an indefinite period from this coming Tuesday (6 November), due to the inability of the Federal Government and organised labour to reach an agreement on the national minimum wage.

The strike will involve all affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and United Labour Congress ( ULC) including the Maritime Workers Union, of which GAC and all other shipping companies are members.

GAC Nigeria has contingency plans in place if the strike action starts.
