The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) was up 36 points earlier on today and 29 since last week’s closing of 1,372 points – despite earlier mild hiccups (11 and 12 of Dec). Thanks to the volatile and predictably unpredictable Capes, it managed to stay afloat and “offer” a possible Christmas gift to all of shipping’s stakeholders. Geopolitical turmoil: too much perplexed. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recaps:

The Capes’ BCI enjoyed a triple digit rise ending the day at 2,383 – a 203 plus points! On a weekly basis the BCI was up 186 points – up from 2,197 of last Friday the 7th of December. Caution though as these triple points spike might be detrimental when same are heading downwards…

The Panamaxes’ BPI was up 19 points and now reads 1,478; on a weekly basis the BPI was up just nine points – from 1,469…

The Supras maintained an upwards contained situation with the BSI gaining six points and now stands at 974 points; on a weekly basis 21 points raises the hopes of seeing again the 1,000 threshold being re-conquered – up from  953 points…

A bit of unhappy daily and weekly ending for the Handies’ BHSI; on a daily basis the Handies were down four points – now reading 617 and on a weekly one minus eight – from 625…

So all in all an upwards Dry Market due to the Capes’ rise but we reiterate the view that one size CANNOT constitute a market!

Far better picture for the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 1,223 and 917 points – up five and down two respectively. On a weekly basis the Dirties were up 55 – from 1,168 and the Cleans 31 – from 886. Let’s hope the Dirties maintain the 1,000 points plus and the Cleans go over and above the 1,000 points!

The WTI ended at US$ 51.20 – dropped a bit since yesterday when it stood at US$ 52.58; it was also down US$ 1.41 from last week’s US$ 52.61. We all have to keep an eye on the oil …jargon as you never ever know what same can cause to all all over Planet Ocean particularly when oil is being used as a weapon… Pity!

The Container trade is one of the most important categories to watch as, despite the demand, speed and conversely consumption as well as the environmental issues might cause hiccups in this category. At my time down at City Poly in Moorgate during a major seminar in April 1973 speeds 28-32 knots were more than of an essence – and that during the crisis with the Arab – Israeli conflict and the then oil crisis. Now we don’t have such a thing – of course tomorrow might bring an Armageddon but still we need speed in this trade… Let’s see…

The environment with scrubbers and all that jazz becomes an unnecessary headache and leads us to understand that Shipping for the very very very few is on the cards as numerous times we have stressed in our reports.

We see some buy-outs, merges and acquisitions and wonder what is next… Nothing though can halt the situation in the field with the coming conflicts… Things are extremely difficult and with the accumulation of Trillions of Dollars with respect the Global debt – we might see despicable things happening. Watch out!

The main stock markets witness major losses and we might see strange effects…

The Geopolitical situation couldn’t be more perplexed:

The MIGRANTS issue now is a major problem at the border between the USA and Mexico. You all have seen what is happening on TV or heard in the Radio and read in the Newspapers… As for the European mess with the MIGRANTS, expect at the end of the day, an upheaval with incalculable repercussions. Ultra CAUTION!

The Wars in the Middle East and in particular Syria and Iraq with the involvement of too many nations is the triumph of war over diplomacy. Shame!

Turkey plays one of the most dubious roles you have ever ever imagined trying to destabilise the region as well as the Balkans …next door, needless to say the entire East Med. Bullying of its neighbours continuous and if you add the religious factor and the traditional Turkish blackmail you will see what you get and what might be detrimental for the entire region one thousand miles around Turkey. Besides, Turkey is a bankrupt nation and still wants to lead and be the spearhead amongst the other contesters, namely Saudi Arabia – hence the rhetoric and accusations with the Khashoggi saga, Iran despite the tricky commercial energy deals…

Greece next door too continues with both internal as well as with external ones and let’s see what happens when Syriza losses power… Too many issues with third class players… Pity! Be ready for developments!

Cyprus must enter NATO, no excuses!

The Eastern Med will soon produce mess… Energy et all the main issues…

Albania might rock the “peaceful” post WWII period with its politicians despicable attitude against the Greek minority south of Tirana and Kosovo allowing to have an army can bring Putin’s Russia in the heat of the Balkans…

Italy plays it safe with its budget; excellent tactics which produce hope…

The European Union stands to loose a lot from its adamant position towards the United Kingdom on BREXIT…

BREXIT within the United Kingdom and beyond will make the wold go round. No one ever calculated the positive impact of the British Commonwealth… Respect from all sides to Theresa May!

The European Union headed by Angela Merkel prays for the devolution in the British Isles… You dead well know what I mean…

France in tatters with the fifth coming Saturday tomorrow and expect more mess from the gilets jaunes – yellow vests. President Macron has to saw sheer political skills – and non consensions to make his democracy work…Nasty, nasty, nasty. Watch the situ and don’t be surprised by the outcome… Meantime the shocking terrorist events in Strasbourg last Tuesday claimed its fourth victim – an Italian journalist. Cherif Chekatt – the suspect of last Tuesday’s attack was shot dead by a police patrol; the culprit, a radicalised islamist terrorist opened fired trying to escape… Caution and NO Fear as we have to win over these inhumane humans…

Let’s see what happens tomorrow in Katowice Poland as we all except some good news on the COP24. This summer 2015 Paris agreement must be approved in its entirety; let’s hope the delay woks favourably for saving Planet Ocean!

More news before midnight; until then remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans wherever you are on Planet Ocean!

I do also see things moving for Cyprus problem.
Proposing a realistic and viable solution is the only way.
