What a week that was: Turbulent markets and perplexed geopolitics

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) fell ten points earlier on today and now stands at 1,937; it also fell 233 points since last week’s 2,170!!! That was a fall thanks to the Capes’ “performance”! The Geopolitical aspects still in disarray; expect despicable developments in all fronts. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recaps:

The Capes’ BCI was surprisingly up 38 points at 3,647 and on a weekly basis down 732 points – from 4,379!!! Volatility at its best…

The Panamaxes lost 71 points and now the BPI stands at 2,109. The weekly loss was 611 points – from 2,170!

Minus seven points for the Supras’ BSI now at 1,005; on a weekly basis though the BSI was up 23 points – from 982!

The Handies’ BHSI clinched three points and now reads 515; on a weekly basis same was up 23 points – from 492…

All in all a very volatile and uncertain market and caution is advised… we are in the middle of the summer and all things being equal we are at odd with reality…

The Wets still with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 634 – plus six and 469 – minus two points respectively. On a weekly basis the Dirties were up nine points from 625 and the Cleans minus 22…

The WTI as these lines are being written stands at US$56.17 from US$56.02  yesterday– up 15 cents…. Last week (19/7) it stood at US$ 55.76 so that’s 41 cents up…

All in all mind the dire straits and the UK – Iran “confrontation” must ease as this might escalate with uncertain and unknown end results… Ships passing the Straits of Hormuz MUST be in our view well equipped to counter everything that can happen… At least the crew members of all detained vessels from both sides are fine… Respect to the seafarers… Respect to the law vis-à-vis the ownership and flag state of the ships; Respect to sanctions… Respect also to the real dignity of all involved; who’s right and who’s wrong will one day surface… All have “strategic interest” and we advise CAUTION!!!! Arrogance will be and MUST be punished!

The Geopolitics are getting sour:

The Migrants still on top of all issues put together; the politicians, diplomats, commissioners and their cronies they don’t give a damn and the situation one day will explode everywhere; just wait and see the total breakage of the social cohesion! Despicable things are going to take place with the MIGRANTS! Add the fact of the hundreds being lost per week in the Med mainly off the coast of North Africa – Libya in particular and see what you get. SHAME to all those who keep a blind eye; SHAME to the traffickers, SHAME to most of the NGO’s…

The faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa continues to produce too many troubles; Spain, Italy, the Balkans, Greece, Turkey, Russia and Ukraine, Cyprus, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan…Afghanistan; North Africa, Libya, Sahara and sub Sahara, Egypt, Sudan, the entire Arabian Peninsula, Israel, the Palestinians,  you name it; all at the end of the cliff…

The European Union will for sure face the Boris Johnson pressure on BREXIT. Wonder what the British Prime Minister will do for the United Kingdom and the BREXIT issue… It will be yet again another summer of discontent and CAUTION is advised…. There are a lot of twists and turns ahead… Watch this space!

At the other side of the Atlantic president Trump is thinking of Tariffs against French wine… A confrontation with Macron? Meantime what’s up with Robert Mueller? How president Trump will deal with North Korea following another missile test… The USA – China Trade War; what’s next from the president… Above all how will he end this blackmail of the Turks’ president Erdogan with the S-400 and the F-35’s  will end up?

The heatwave in the UK and in Europe has caused a big mess as many means of transport are not, unfortunately, compatible to deal with extreme heat conditions. Under all the Climate Change situ we live in and being urged to get familiar with and the 2020, the 2035 and 2050 “thresholds”, our society in 2019 should have been long ago ready to tackle the situation… People going on holiday witnessed terrible experiences! They shouldn’t…

More news before midnight; until then have a nice evening and weekend but continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean…
