Honouring Capt. Orlando Allard

Captain Orlando Allard was honoured today with the medal of the Panama Canal Expansion Programme for his contributions during more than 30 years in the Canal, as a towboat master, a pilot and in the administration, in charge of the maritime training programmes. The Private Sector Council for Educational Assistance (COSPAE) Directors, co-organisers of the event, also complimented Captain Allard on his four-years as President of the Council and member of the Board.

Captain Allard was Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) during 2000-2003 and, upon his return to Panama, co-founded the International Maritime University and was appointed as its first Rector.

Captain Allard is very active in maritime industry circles in Panama and the region and has presided over the bi-annual Panama Maritime World Conferences, organised by the Maritime Chamber and the Maritime Law Association.

He is currently the Dean of the Engineering and Technology Faculty of the Santa Maria la Antigua Catholic University, the oldest in the country.
