Rich pickings for the Dry Market amid geopolitical uncertainty

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) surge of 10 points makes waves as at 2,378 – a five year and eight month high brings smiles, but be CAUTIOUS with Geopolitics as the Trade Wars now enfold dangerously. Geopolitics continue to get more perplexed and messy. John Faraclas’ brief daily and weekly recaps:

The BDI was also 210 points higher from last week’s (23/8) closing when same stood at 2,168 points!

The Capes’ BCI continued its monumental volatility and gained 261 points – now standing at 4,467 points. On a weekly basis the BCI exceeded the 1,000 points gains with an impressive 1,076 points plus – up from 3,391 last week…

Modest gains for the Panamaxes BPI with 11 points plus at 2,260 and on  weekly basis a 64 points plus – up from 2,196. A bit of an oxymoron with the capes’ rise and very close with the Supras…

The Supras’ BSI was up eight points on a daily basis at 1,336 and 87 on weekly one – from 1,249…

Finally the Handies clinched nine valuable points and now read 665; on a weekly basis the BHSI gained 46 points – up from 619 (23/8)

So all in all a good Dry Market and hope same remains; for info purposes same is up 131 points from that as of the end of December 2013 when the BDI stood at 2,247 points (2,378 – 2,247)!  It took five yeas and eight months to surpass this level (2,247 points). Let’s see what’s next given the Trade Wars, the 2020 saga and other issues particularly how the Economy on Planet Ocean Develops given the US$ 250 (twohundredandfifty) trillion debt… Recession is not just ante portas, it already exists!

The Wets on a slightly falling mode; the last published BDTI (dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 656 – minus four and 468 – minis one points respectively. On a weekly basis the Dirties wee down six points – from 662 (23/8) and the cleans minus one from 469 points…

The WTI  stood at US$ 54.17 down from last week’s US$ 55.0 despite the hike during the week when it reached US$ 56.71 yesterday.

The Geopolitical situation will soon make things impossible and the wellbeing of the 7.9 billion people on Planet Ocean will be in danger with a domino effect as too many issues cannot be tackled appropriately simultaneously. We live in interesting times.

The MIGRANTS despicable issue maintains the lead from all other issues; a time bomb for our society, a total shame, the biggest hype of Planet Ocean’s modern history. Things accelerate faster than once can imagine and indeed we were lucky to witness – after the seaside of the Athenian Riviera the situation on the Greek Island of Chios in the eastern Aegean Sea!

The faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn Africa continues to produce tsunamis and quakes… Watch out for the Iranian tanker trying the patience of the West… meantime the safety of navigation in the Persian Gulf and in particular the dire Straits of Hormuz  raises the stakes for yet another confrontation in the region and many believe that USA’s president Trump will convince his allies to follow him as some in Euope have second thoughts over the nuclear agreement with Iran. we shall see…

Nearby the Indian vs. Pakistan standoff for Kashmir also raises questions and fears! CAUTION!

The Hong Kong mess is more serious than one can imagine and its escalation will certainly jeopardise the relations of many  nations…

Equally important is the North Korean tolerance… CAUTION too as you never ever know how things can turn and turn sour… Too many ballistic tests, small or big doesn’t really matter so long they don’t threat Peace in the region…

The Trade Wars particularly the one between the USA and China dangerously accelerates  followed by the European with the USA and others… Japan and South Korea at loggerheads too…

BREXIT saws the bad side of the Parliament of all parliaments. Democracy at risk! CAUTION!

Turkish provocations on all issues to all its bordering nations and beyond will cause incalculable damage… Let the Bautas and Morettas fall!

Greece struggles to remain afloat and we need to see its opposition grow up and follow constructive criticism and not dirty party politics. The Greek minister for Shipping and islands Policy Yiannis Plakiotakis will visit London next week with interesting meetings. Hope he remains for the LISW2019 and hope his aides have informed him well in advance. The 14th Annual Greek Roadshow from from ATHEX (Athens Stock Exchange) takes place in London on the 18 and 19 September and promises to be a very interesting one. Watch this space!

The East med / Middle East is on fire and more mess and spill overs are to be expected Ultra CAUTION should be observed. Syria in the  modern martyrdom  and there is more to come. Iraq still in a mess… Israel trying to defend its people by all means and cost!

Italy also struggles to maintain a new coalition to run and save the country – a G7 member from split and destruction… Too many debts…

No words to compensate the Amazon; the Brazilian establishment MUST make or beak. A catastrophe – a very powerful Greek word,  of incalculable proportions. These burning lungs might cause an unrest one day!

Next door in Argentina, things are getting sour; CAUTION! More measures are to be imposed!

And what about Venezuela? A strange silence…

Most of the African nations in complete disarray and expect mess soon; South Africa will be once again a focal point of unrest…

The Baltic Ports Conference in Stockholm, Sweden  next week – 4tht to 6th of September is also another interesting event!

The LISW 2019 (London International Shipping Week 2019) promises to be a super event for many many reasons surpassing the importance of all other similar events in the UK over the last 30 (thirty) years.

The 10th Hydra Shipping Conference takes place on  14 Sept. 2019: The Controversy in Shipping – Is it Justifiable? An event not to be missed

The Southampton International Boat Show 13-22 September promises to be a special one; an event NOT to be missed!

Have a nice evening / weekend and remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.
