Meeting emissions targets for ships is tough but possible

Our latest Maritime Forecast to 2050 uses a new model to look at how different policies impact the IMO’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission goals.

With contributions from vessel speed reduction, energy-efficiency measures, and alternative fuels, the model predicts shipping’s emissions will peak in the mid- to late 2020s. Even so, it appears this will not be enough to meet the 2050 IMO GHG targets, without carbon-neutral fuels playing a much larger role.

Read more about the GHG Pathway Model in our article “Forecasting the effects of world fleet decarbonization options”.
