The Head of Maritime Administration has announced a 34.7% increase in tonnage dues at Novorossiysk port with effect from 29 December 2019.

Extreme weather in Indonesian waters

According to the Indonesian Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Typhoon Phanfone will cause wave heights to reach 2.5 to 4.0m in the Pacific Ocean region north of Halmahera to Papua. Vessels should be wary of wind speeds of more than 27 knots and wave height above 4.0m.

Port operations and surcharge on New Year’s Day

All official institutions and banks will be closed for New Year’s Day holiday on Wednesday, 1 January 2020.

Some ports may suspend operations on this date and official services such as pilotage, towage, mooring and customs will be increased by 50%. There will be a 50% surcharge on all pilotage services for Turkish Straits on 1 January.

Owners and operators of vessels calling at Turkish ports are urged to make sure all arrangements for crew, spares, provisions, documentation, etc are made in a timely manner ahead of the holiday.

The Cochin Port Labour Union has advised that it has called its members to join a nation-wide general strike on 8 January 2020, in response to the call by the ten Central trade unions, independent federations and associations of various sectors.
